What Are Huggie Earrings?
Huggie earrings are small, hoop-style earrings designed to sit close to the earlobe, creating a snug, seamless fit. Unlike traditional hoops, which leave a gap, huggies have a compact, curved shape that wraps neatly around the ear. They often feature a hinge mechanism, making them easy to put on and remove without needing a traditional labret post and flatback.
The Difference Between Huggie Earrings & Small Hoop Earrings
Huggie earrings and small hoop earrings may look similar, but they have distinct design differences.
- Huggie Earrings are designed to sit snugly against the earlobe with little to no gap. They typically have a hinge fastening that allows them to open and close securely around the ear, giving a seamless, contoured fit.
- Small Hoop Earrings have a slightly larger diameter and often leave a small gap between the earring and the earlobe. They come in various styles, including thin, bold, and pavé-set designs, offering more movement and a traditional hoop look.
How to Wear Hoops & Huggies
Hoop earrings and huggie earrings can often be worn together for a perfectly styled look.
- Classic & Minimal – Wear 18k gold plated or white hoop earrings solo for a clean, polished finish. Large hoops make a statement, while small hoop earrings or huggie earrings offer a subtle touch.
- Stacking & Layering – Mix different sizes and styles in multiple piercings. Start with huggie earrings in the first lobe piercing and build up with small hoops or ear cuffs for a stacked effect.
- Contrast & Texture – Pair pavé-set huggies with smooth metal hoops to balance, sparkle, and shine. Mixing finishes, from 18k gold plated to white or black, creates a modern, layered look.
- Asymmetry & Styling – Wear a single large hoop on one side and stack huggies and smaller hoops on the other for a bold, fashion-forward approach.
Huggie Earrings vs Ear Cuffs
Huggie earrings and ear cuffs may share a similar snug fit, but they serve different styling purposes and have distinct designs.
- Huggie Earrings are small, closed hoops that sit tightly around the earlobe. They feature a hinge mechanism for easy wear and are designed for pierced ears.
- Ear Cuffs do not require piercings and wrap around the ear's cartilage. They create the illusion of multiple piercings and can be worn alone or stacked with earrings for a layered effect. APM ear cuffs feature bold silhouettes, sculptural detailing, and pavé embellishments, making them an effortless way to add edge to any look.
